All Personnel involved in Operating Overhead Crane and associated lifting operations

THE AIM OF THE TRAINING

To conform to the requirements of:

  • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Health & Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996.
  • BS 7121
  • Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.
  • Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.
  • Plus other relevant legislation.

THE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course the Candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements of the Regulations.
  • Identify & explain relevant information relating to lifting accessories and match certification.
  • Ensure that the area of operation is suitable for lifting activities.
  • Estimate weights and centres of gravity.
  • Recognise different types of lifting accessories and their applications.
  • Recognise and select appropriate lifting accessories for different types of loads.
  • Carry out Pre-operational checks on Overhead Cranes
  • Operate Overhead Cranes:
    • Independently
    • With a Slinger Signaller
    • With a crane supervisor
  • Sling various loads including balanced, unbalanced and loose.
  • Move various loads and place accurately including to and from confined and ‘blind’ areas.
  • Keep within safe working parameters.
  • Return lifting accessories to storage.
  • Park the crane at the end of lifting operations.

0900 – 1000  – Theory
1000 – 1015 – Break
1015 – 1130 – Theory
1130 – 1230 – Practical
1230 – 1315 – Lunch
1315 – 1500 – Practical and Assessments
1500 – 1515 – Break
1515 – 1630 – Assessments and written test

VENUE

The course can be carried only at the clients site on their equipment

ASSESSMENT

(a)   Examination – Theory test.
(b)   Practical – Demonstration of skill.

This course is approved by the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme and successful completion is recognised by the issue of a NPORS Card.
