COURSE DURATION

1 day per machine

Both machines can be completed in 1½ days

FOR WHOM THE TRAINING IS INTENDED

For users of Mobile Elevated Work platforms and their supervisors

THE AIM OF THE TRAINING

To conform to the requirements of :

  • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1992.
  • Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992.

Plus other relevant legislation.

THE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course the Candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements of the Regulations.
  • Identify the basic construction and components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
  • Identify and comply with manufacturers instructions in accordance with the operators handbook other information sources i.e. duties charts and applicable regulations
  • Explain all relevant documentation.
  • Explain all display information on the machine.
  • Carry out pre-start and running checks.
  • Carry out emergency lowering procedures.
  • Operate controls from ground level and from within the working platform.
  • Manoeuvre/travel the MEWP involving tight turns and limited access using forward and reverse motions.
  • Travel the MEWP with the platform in a raised position (self-propelled only)
  • Position the platform up to maximum working height.
  • Keep within safe working parameters.
  • Place the machine in an out-of-service condition.
  • Explain the loading and unloading procedure on and off a transporter

0900 – 1000hrs – Theory
1000 – 1015 – Break
1015 -1130hrs – Theory
1130 – 1230 – Practical
1230 – 1315 – Lunch
1315 – 1500 – Practical and Assessment
1500 – 1515 – Break
1515 – 1630 – Regulations and  written test

RATIO OF INSTRUCTORS TO TRAINEES

1 instructor to 6 trainees

ASSESSMENT

(a)   Examination – Theory test.
(b)   Practical – Demonstration of skill.

There is a theory and a practical element to the training along with a written and a practical test.

This course is approved by the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme and successful completion is recognised by the issue of a NPORS Card.
