Anyone involved with developing or using Risk Assessments or Method Statements.

THE AIM OF THE TRAINING

This course will give the candidate an awareness of the current Health & Safety legislation and regulations and how the legislation and regulation affects them as a worker or employer.

THE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course the Candidates will have an awareness of:

The importance of all workers in all industries of having an understanding of Health and Safety.  There is extensive legislation in place which covers this, it involves all aspects of work practices and requires, employers, employees and self employed to comply with this law and do their utmost to ensure the health and safety of all individuals.

Highlights of some of the main features of these laws as they apply to work situations, it should be pointed out that the information presented during the course is intended only as a guide to some of the more important points. Additional information and training should be obtained where required with relevance to individual situations.

Awareness of Health and Safety issues, not just the legal areas but also placing emphasis on the moral aspects. Reference to case law will be made however it is not the course role to provide interpretation or legal advice.

The course covers elements of:

  • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Risk Assessment
  • Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006
  • Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
  • COSHH Regulations 2002
  • Health & Safety (Signs & Signals) Regulations 1996
  • Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
  • Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 (as amended 2002)
  • Display Screen Equipment Regulations 1992 (as amended 2002)
  • Plus other relevant legislation.

ASSESSMENT

There are a series of short answer and multiple choice questions to check the candidates understanding.
