COURSE DURATION

Evening Class (usually Thursday evening) 6 sessions –  6-9pm

FOR WHOM THE TRAINING IS INTENDED

All those who need to learn or improve the basic skills for welding

THE AIM OF THE TRAINING

To give beginners the knowledge to start welding.  To help the candidates decide which type of welding to use.

For those with some knowledge or who carry out some welding as part of their job.  To improve skills and knowledge in the welding techniques they have.  Give them the confidence to set up equipment, carry out welding operations and assess the results they have achieved.

Candidates who have their own equipment they are welcome to bring it along so that they can learn how it works and get the best results from it.  To help candidates complete a project (a project is entirely up to the candidate and advice will be given as to whether it can be undertaken during the course)

THE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course the Candidates will have an awareness of what skills are required for welding.

  • Health & Safety – Knowledge of the health and safety implications of welding. Practical health and safety measures to protect themselves and others
  • Types of welding – Candidates can learn basic skills in:
    • Metal Inert/Active Gas – MIG / MAG
    • Tungsten Inert Gas – TIG
    • Manual Metal Arc – MMA
    • Oxygen Acetylene
  • Equipment – how to set up equipment related to the different techniques.
  • Practical – basic welding skills related to the different techniques.

RATIO OF INSTRUCTORS TO TRAINEES

1 instructor to 6 trainees

ASSESSMENT

There is no formal assessment with this course, just advice, guidance and feedback on the welding undertaken.

This course is a Varis Training course and on completion and successful candidates receive Varis Training Certificates.
