Food safety courses are available at Introductory, Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced levels. The Introductory course is suitable for new staff before they progress to higher level courses; the Elementary course is designed for all food workers in the food industry; the Intermediate course is appropriate for supervisors; and the Advanced course gives managers a detailed overview of food safety and meets the technical qualifications required to become a registered REHIS presenter.

This course can be delivered on site at your premises or at Varis Training, Forres

COURSE DURATION

FOR WHOM THE TRAINING IS INTENDED

This Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) is for all those who are involved with food preparation.

This qualification is equivalent to Level 2 Food Safety Awards in England, Wales and Northern Ireland

THE AIM OF THE TRAINING

This course will provide candidates with the necessary information to control food safety hazards and if applied correctly will reduce food complaints and the risk of food poisoning

THE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course candidates will understand the following topics :

  • Introduction to food hygiene
  • Bacteria and their characteristics
  • Food poisoning and it’s prevention
  • Food pests and their control
  • Personal hygiene and working habits
  • The working environment and cleaning practices
  • Food safety legislation

RATIO OF INSTRUCTORS TO TRAINEES

1 instructor to 12  trainees (max)

ACHIEVEMENT MEASUREMENT

At the end of this course there is a 30 minute multiple-choice test. All successful candidates receive a REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene certificate.  Course participants who fail the test are permitted one re-sit opportunity.
