COURSE DURATION

FOR WHOM THE TRAINING IS INTENDED

This training is intended as an introduction to the dangers of asbestos. The training is intended for anyone who may work, or reside in a building that is likely to obtain asbestos. A building has a risk of containing asbestos if any part was built prior to the year 2000.

THE AIM OF THE TRAINING

To understand what asbestos is.

Students will gain a vital understanding why asbestos is still a risk for them. They will also receive guidance about what to do when they are potentially confronted with asbestos.

THE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course the Candidates will be able to:

  • Understand what asbestos is
  •  List the uses of asbestos in the building trade
  •  Identify where students may come across asbestos in their work
  •  Explain procedures for dealing with asbestos
  • Understand an overview of asbestos legislation
  • Understand an overview of Personal Protective Equipment

TRAINING PROGRAMME

09.00 – 10.30 – Theory
10.30 – 10.45 – Break
10.45 – 12.00 – Plenary session and practical exercise.

RATIO OF INSTRUCTORS TO TRAINEES

1 instructor to 6 trainees

ASSESSMENT

Examination – Task Sheet.

This course is based on Health and Safety Executive guidelines. On successful completion of the course students will be awarded Varis Certificates.
