COURSE DURATION 

1 day or ½ day

FOR WHOM THE TRAINING IS INTENDED

All operators of Abrasive Wheels especially those who have no prior experience.

THE AIM OF THE TRAINING

To conform to the requirements of:

  • Health & Safety at Work regulations 1974
  • Abrasive Wheel Regulations 1970
  • Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
  • Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992
  • Plus other relevant legislation

THE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course the Candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements of the Regulations.
  • Be competent with Safety Awareness.
  • Identify the various Abrasive wheel types.
  • Carry out Pre-start Checks on electrical / petrol hand held and bench mounted abrasive wheels
  • Carry out correct Wheel/Disc changing procedure.
  • Carry out correct mounting dressing procedure (Fixed Machines).

TRAINING PROGRAMME

Half Day

09.00 – 10.30 – Theory
10.30 – 10.45 – Break
10.45 – 12.15 – DVD and Theory test, practical training

Full Day

12.15 – 13.00 – Lunch
13.00 – 15.00 – Practical assessment of mounting abrasive wheels and dressing as appropriate to equipment to be used.  Practical safe use cutting and grinding on appropriate materials
15.00 – 15.15 Break
15.15 – 16.00 Practical tests, course feedback, Course finishes around 16.00.

RATIO OF INSTRUCTORS TO TRAINEES

1 instructor to 6 trainees Novices
1 instructor to 10 trainees for certificate only courses.

ASSESSMENT

(a)   Examination – Theory test.
(b)   Practical – Demonstration of skill.

This course is approved by the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS) and successful completion is recognised by the issue of a NPORS Card if required by the client or a Varis Training Certificate.

There is an additional administration cost for NPORS cards.

The equipment used on the course is entirely flexible to the client’s needs

We can provide equipment or base the course around the client’s equipment, with the exception of large floor mounted pedestal grinders in which case the client’s machine is usually used for training.
